The case was heard remotely by a Justice of the Peace on November 21, 2023, in the Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton.

Court heard that a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officer conducted an inspection on May 21, 2023, while Pearson was fishing in Greenstone, located about 273 kilometers northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Several containers holding numerous chunks of fish frozen in water were discovered, making it difficult to ascertain the number of fish caught.

Pearson also faces a one-year suspension of his fishing license.
