Residents in Unnaryd in Hylte municipality are asked to refrain from drinking tap water. According to a so-called VMA (important notice to the public), a chemical release has occurred in the water, which means that it should neither be drunk nor used for cooking, even if it has been boiled.

The tap water should also not be used for showering or washing, but it is still fine to flush toilets. According to the announcement, there is a risk that the drinking water will run out, as the water plant has been temporarily closed due to the spill.

The chemicals were discovered after Unnaryds residents got in touch and told them that the water in the taps was pink, says Hylte’s head of community development Katarina Paulsson for P4 Halland. The reason must be that potassium permanganate, which is used in the water purification process, was released in too high a dose into the water.

The rescue service will deploy water tanks with clean water in Unnaryd, reports Hallandsposten.
