“Watch over her” by Jean-Baptiste Andrea, a destiny engraved in stone

Watch over her by Jean Baptiste Andrea a destiny engraved in

Awarded the prestigious Prix Goncourt 2023, the fourth novel by Jean-Baptiste Andrea offers a fresco of almost 600 pages which immerses us in Italy in the first half of the 20th century. A moving novel that embraces the destiny of a mysterious statue and two characters who were never meant to meet.

Here’s one who knows how to tell stories. He started on screen, as a screenwriter and director. He continued by writing novels. The fourth has just been released by the same publisher. It appears on several price lists, and its characters have already won over booksellers and readers, becoming one of the great successes of the literary season.

It must be said that Jean-Baptiste Andrea has the art of shaping strong characters, of building a story, and of giving it a powerful romantic breath. A talent that makes him by turns – and sometimes at the same time – alert, poignant, funny and, quite frankly, exciting.

A grandiose fresco of some 580 pages of emotions to embrace two tumultuous lives: that of Mimo, a modest fatherless father who became a genius sculptor, and that of Viola, a rebellious daughter of a family of patricians against the backdrop of Mussolini’s Italy.

His novel ” Watch over her “, of Jean-Baptiste Andrea, was published by Editions de l’Iconoclaste.

Rebroadcast of the show from Wednesday October 4, 2023.
