Telia, Klarna and the Swedish Pensions Authority are examples of companies and authorities that fraudsters have claimed to work for in order to win the trust of victims. Well-known agencies and brands are often used in scam texts or calls, and in recent times many of these have warned of fraudsters.

Most recently, it was the Financial Supervisory Authority’s turn to warn of a wave of investment fraud. “Thousands of individuals are tricked every year into investing in something that later turns out to be a scam,” the company wrote on its homepage.

The police issue a fraud warning to the public

Now the police are warning about call scams.

During Wednesday, the police received no less than five reports of a person calling around and asking private individuals, especially elderly women, for their bank details.

The police are warning the public. The calls must have been to residents in Västerås and Enköping.

“The police also want to call on relatives of elderly people to inform their relatives about what is going on,” the police write on their website.

The caller is said to have given his name as Jakob Olsson in several cases, and because he gave the same name, the police suspect that it is the same perpetrator or perpetrators.

Came to the victims home and took bank cards

At one o’clock in the afternoon, the police in Mitt received a call from a relative who stated that an elderly relative had received a call from someone who said his name was Jakob Olsson and that he worked at a bank. He allegedly asked for the relative’s bank details and bank card, and when he then found out that these were not kept at the relative’s home, he instead started talking about jewelry in the home.

Less than an hour later, the police receive a new report about a Jakob Olsson who claims to work for a company that compares loan rates. The man then allegedly went to the victim’s home and picked up the bank card together with the associated card.

In several of the other reports, the fraudster is said to have come to the victims’ home after the call and collected bank cards and then withdrawn money, the police write on their homepage.
