Watch out for the ‘Heart Tsunami’ on New Year’s Eve! Avoid these mistakes with a wide variety of tables

Watch out for the Heart Tsunami on New Years Eve

Prof from the Department of Cardiology. Dr. Koçaş stated that New Year’s tables generally consist of high-calorie, fatty, sugary and salty foods and made the following warnings:

“When consumed in excess, fatty foods negatively affect cardiovascular health by increasing inflammation. Excessive salt consumption increases blood pressure and increases the workload of the heart. Carbonated and sugary drinks can rapidly increase blood sugar and harm vascular health. Although nuts contain healthy fats, their calorie load increases when consumed excessively. Sweets, on the other hand, can threaten vascular and heart health by rapidly raising blood sugar. “It is vital to consume these foods and beverages in moderation to protect heart health.”

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION DISTURBES THE HEART RHYTHM

Prof. also touched upon the effects of alcohol on heart health. Dr. Koçaş said, “Alcohol consumption can disrupt the heart rhythm and trigger atrial fibrillation. Additionally, the effect of alcohol on the nervous system can cause arrhythmias by causing the heartbeat to accelerate.”

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANXIETY AND HEART PROBLEMS

Drawing attention to the frequently encountered situations after New Year’s Eve, Prof. Dr. Koçaş said, “Your heartbeat may feel fast the day after an evening when you eat differently than normal, but this is different from atrial fibrillation. In atrial fibrillation, heartbeats are irregular and accompanied by complaints such as shortness of breath and dizziness. “In such cases, a cardiologist should be consulted,” he said.

‘NEW TREATMENT METHOD IN ATRIAL FIBRILLATION: LAAC’

Prof. also touched upon the new methods used in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Dr. Koçaş said, “The LAAC (Left Atrial Appendage Closure) method, which is applied especially in patients at risk of stroke, offers an effective treatment option in preventing complications related to atrial fibrillation.”

‘Enter 2025 WITH PRECAUTIONS, ENJOY IT WITH HEALTH’

Prof. Dr. Koçaş concluded his words with the following suggestions:

“On this special night when we will welcome the year 2025, adopt a measured and balanced approach in order not to risk your health. Avoid excessive consumption of fatty foods, desserts and salty nuts. Choose water or healthy alternatives instead of carbonated and sugary drinks. Individuals with heart rhythm disorders should consume alcohol. “If you have any complaints, consult a cardiologist without delay.”
