An unusual police operation took place in Michigan, USA, at the end of last week.
Traffic cameras show how a police officer climbs out of his own police car and into another vehicle – in the middle of the journey.
Now the policewoman is being praised for her heroism.
It was around 2 a.m. Thursday, September 12, that Macomb County police were called to a four-lane road in Mount Clemens after reports of a car swaying on the freeway.
The police patrol tried to stop the car, but without success, and the wobbly ride continued at low speed south on Gatriot Avenue. In an attempt to make contact with the driver, a 63-year-old man, the patrol pulled up alongside the car and then noticed that the driver was uncontactable.
Finally, the driver braked and at the same time rolled down his window. Video from traffic cameras and the policewoman’s own body camera show how she then climbed over from the passenger seat of her own police vehicle and into the silver pick-up. Once in the car, she managed to take control of the vehicle and call a family member to confirm the man’s medical condition.
Praised for his efforts
The high-profile heroic effort is now praised by the woman’s superiors, who praise her courage.
– I want to pay tribute to deputy Miron for how she puts herself in danger to help a citizen in need and protect other road users. “Thanks to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she manages to safely avert something that could have ended in tragedy,” said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, according to ABCChicago.
The driver was later taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
