In Ivory Coast, the renovation of the Boulevard de la Paix in Attécoubé is an important project for traffic in the Ivorian economic capital. This work led to operations to evict the population, orchestrated by the governor of the Abidjan district, also executive secretary of the ruling party, the RHDP.

According to information from the Africa Intelligence site, American financiers are unhappy with the terms of compensation for the populations concerned. The United States is participating in financing the work through the agreement signed between the Ivorian State and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), an American foreign aid agency created in 2004 by the American Congress. The aim of the MCC is to finance projects but taking into account good governance, ownership and the involvement of the countries concerned in the projects and their results.

In 2017, the agreement signed between the MCC and Côte d’Ivoire was financed to the tune of more than half a billion dollars. This is undoubtedly why the United States believes it has a say in the conduct of projects. After negotiations, again according to information from Africa Intelligence, part of the funds will be reallocated to other projects. Despite these financial difficulties, the Ivorian government decided to continue the work.
