Nearly a billion dollars – 988 million to be precise: this is the value of the new tranche of military aid in favor ofUkraine announced this Saturday, December 7 by the United States. This time it notably includes ammunition for artillery, drones, as well as parts and components for the maintenance of artillery systems and armored vehicles.
The announcement of this new substantial envelope comes less than a week after that of another tranche of aid worth $700 million taken from the stocks of the American army with, again, ammunition for artillery, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
A clear message before Donald Trump returns to the White House
At the time of the presidential election won by Donald Trump on November 5, there remained six billion dollars for Ukraine in the American coffers, a sum which, technically, risks not being able to be delivered in its entirety to kyiv between now and January 20 and the return of Donald Trump to the White House.
But the message – delivered just as the US president-elect spoke in Paris with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyunder the auspices ofEmmanuel Macron – has the merit of being clear: until its departure, the Biden administration intends to provide all possible assistance to Ukraine to put it in the most favorable position in the event of rapid opening of negotiations with the RussiaA objective from which Donald Trump has never hidden even if he has not yet formally said that he was going to stop the payment of this aid, which he believes is too expensive for his country.
