Ismail Haniyeh, who the whole world is talking about today, was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Yesterday, Iranian religious leader Khamenei hosted Haniyeh and Ziyad al-Nakhalah.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced in a statement this morning that an attack was carried out on Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran.
ISRAEL’S SOCIAL MEDIA MOVE CREATES Skepticism
While Iran and the Hamas Movement hold Israel responsible for the assassination, Israeli officials have avoided making a statement about the incident. Haniyeh’s photo was shared on the official Facebook account of the Israeli Press Office. The photo was marked “Removed.” However, the post was deleted shortly after.
WAS THE MISSILE FIRED FROM OUTSIDE IRAN?
An unnamed Iranian source told Al-Madeeyan that Haniyeh was killed by a missile, which was fired from outside Iran. The closest borders to Tehran are Turkmenistan, about 200 kilometers away, and Azerbaijan, about 300 kilometers away.
Israeli Press: NAKHALAH IN THE SAME BUILDING WAS NOT TARGETED
On the other hand, Israel’s Channel 12 television later reported that Iranian authorities concluded that the shell was actually fired from inside the country’s borders. According to the same report, which did not specify the source, Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ziad al-Nakhalah was staying on a different floor in the same building but was not targeted.

HANİYE’S BODYGUARD ALSO DIED
The Revolutionary Guard Corps, which was the first to announce the news of Haniye’s death, also announced that a guided missile was used in the attack and that Haniye and her bodyguard also lost their lives.
“BULLETS WERE FIRED FROM THE AIR”
According to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, the attack took place at around 02:00. Haniyeh was staying at a residence for veterans of the Revolutionary Guard Corps in northern Tehran at the time. She was targeted by a projectile fired from the air.
