Was locked up in an apartment during a murder investigation

During a murder investigation in the spring of 2021, the police had to cordon off an apartment in Södertälje when a person had been found dead in the apartment and they suspected murder.

There were two dogs in the apartment which, according to the landlord Victoriahem, died because the apartment was cordoned off for a long time.

A person charged with the crime was acquitted by the district court in February 2022, but the district court ordered in the judgment that the cordon off of the apartment should remain, it is stated in the Chancellor of Justice’s decision document which News24 took part in.

In September, the Court of Appeal upheld the acquittal and ordered that the blockade be lifted.

When the judgment entered into force, the Police Authority handed over the apartment keys to representatives of the deceased apartment owner’s estate.

The landlord was never told that the blockade had been lifted

However, no one ever told the landlord Victoriahem that the barriers had now been removed.

Victoriahem has therefore requested damages from the state of SEK 134,400, for the lack of rental income and because the company was not able to clean up the apartment after the murder until the spring of 2023.

The cordon also led to the deceased apartment owner’s dogs dying in the apartment during the cordon period.

The Chancellor of Justice decided that the company should receive damages

Now the Chancellor of Justice has decided that Victoriahem will receive SEK 76,800 in compensation from the Police Authority.
