Julia Nilsson was constantly in pain. But an ostomy bag changed her life for the better.
Now she is a success on social media with her videos about life with a stoma.
– That keven as a natural thing to show what it looks like, she says.
Julia Nilsson, 20, has had stomach problems all her life, and it got worse with each passing year. She tried many medications but nothing helped. In the end, a stoma operation was the salvation.
– Since I got a stoma it has been such a relief. All my stomach pain went away. I would have done it much earlier if I had only known, says Julia Nilsson in Nyhetsmorgon.
After she underwent her operation, Julia Nilsson felt alone as a young person with a stoma. Then she started sharing her journey on social media herself – which has become a great success.
– There are many people who have had ostomy surgery and it feels like a natural thing to show what it looks like.
Wants to break the prejudices
Now Julia breaks the stigma and spreads knowledge to thousands of people in social media. She was surprised by how many people got in touch and recognized themselves in her stories. She is not alone anymore.
– People tell me that “now I also dare to show my ostomy bag”.
She has never wanted to hide her ostomy bag but thinks it is important to normalize.
– I am grateful and delighted. I refuse to be ashamed.
The most annoying thing is when people stare, Julia thinks. And some prejudices seem to linger:
– People think you smell like poo.
Then it is better to ask if you are curious, she points out.
– I have been open from day one.
