Pointing out that varicose veins is a very common health question, Prof. Dr. Bora Farsak said that genetic predisposition, being a woman and fertility are important factors in the formation of varicose veins. Emphasizing that the rate of varicose veins increases in women, especially during pregnancy, Prof. Dr. Farsak explained the factors that caused it. Stating that one of them is the increase in the hormone level, Prof. Dr. Farsak said, “In order to facilitate the birth, the connective tissue in the body relaxes with the increased hormone level during pregnancy. Therefore, the increased connective tissue relaxation in the veins around the legs and abdomen prepares the environment for varicose veins.
“AFTER THE 4TH MONTH, IT BEGINS TO SHOW ITSELF”
Noting that the increased amount of fluid in the body during pregnancy also affects the formation of varicose veins, Prof. Dr. Farsak said that this is why the load on the veins increases and varicose veins occur. prof. Dr. Prof. Farsak said, “Especially after the 4th month, the child, who goes above the pelvis and begins to visualize, begins to put more pressure on the main vessels. Dr. Farsak says, “As we grow, the pressure in our legs rises again as we do more and prevent the return to the heart. The pressure on the wall increases and if you are fit again, that is, if you have a genetic predisposition, our heirs will appear.
“THE RISK INCREASES WITH EVERY BIRTHDAY”
Stating that the probability of varicose veins for the next birth increases with each birth, Prof. Dr. Farsak said, “There is no official figure, but if the probability of varicose veins is 10 percent, it may be 15 percent in the second and 25 percent in the third.”
PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE
Stating that the first complaint would be pain, Prof. Dr. Farsak also said that there will be pain accompanied by night edema, especially in the afternoon towards the evening. Noting that those with very serious, very swollen veins may have itching at night, Prof. Dr. Farsak says, “There may be night cramps. Restless leg is actually an undiagnosed disease, but for the last fifteen or twenty years, venous insufficiency has taken a very serious place among the diagnoses or stimuli of restless legs.
Stating that it is important to prevent the formation of varicose veins in this period, Prof. Dr. Farsak pregnant women; He advised them not to gain excessive weight, to walk regularly, to wear compression stockings after their 4th month, and to lie on the left side, not the right, while sleeping.
“WE DON’T PREFER TREATMENT AT THIS PERIOD”
Expressing that they do not find it appropriate to treat during pregnancy, unless there are major problems such as bleeding, clots and explosions, Prof. Dr. Farsak said that they focused on the measures taken during this period. Stating that many patients applied for treatment during pregnancy, Prof. Dr. Farsak said, “We neither apply cosmetic treatment nor do surgery during pregnancy. Surgery can be done when giving birth, but I don’t prefer it too much. Because these processes affect breast milk. That’s why I recommend the patients who apply to come and get treatment after weaning their baby.”
