The sports holiday is in full swing and many homes are temporarily empty.
Now warnings are being aired that the burglars are not allowed to take permission.
“It is easy to become a target for burglary when you are away,” says Lina Nilsson, counseling expert at the SSF Theft Protection Association, in a press release.
The organization points to figures from the Crime Prevention Council (Brå) which shows that 28 burglaries were reported per day in the country in February last year.
The burglaries often occur during the day when no one is at home. But during holidays, weekends and holidays when many homes are empty, it happens more often during the evening, when the thief is less visible.
Admittedly, the notifications in the country decreased last year, but in regions that Brå defines as Stockholm, West and East, they increased in, for example, villas and townhouses.
In villas, the thieves usually get in through a window or a patio door, while in apartments they focus on the mailbox and use a so -called locking lung.
What was mostly stolen last year was jewelry, watches, cash and computers.
Fact tips to keep the thief away
Unless the neighborhood cooperation exists, tell the neighbors that you go away and ask them to keep an eye on your home, empty the mailbox and at snow shovel.
Lock all windows and doors with certified locks, including patio doors. For apartments, safety letter box or locking cover is recommended.
Use timers to get lamps lit and extinguished at different times. It makes it harder to determine if and when you are at home.
Install lighting that lights up during movement, outside the house and on the site.
Alarms are a good complement to neighborly cooperation and certified locks.
Don’t clean. Then it looks like you’re home or just gone for a while.
