The yellow warning for rain in the southernmost parts of Norrland has now been lifted. However, some rain may continue in the area during Saturday evening – and more may be on the way during Sunday, SMHI warns.

SMHI’s warning for the heavy rain previously put a yellow band across the map of Sweden, from the mountain areas in Jämtland down over the inland towards Sundsvall, Hudiksvall and Söderhamn. But later on Saturday the warning was lifted.

– There is still a streak of rain over the south-eastern parts of Norrland, however, Ulrica Sievert, meteorologist on duty at SMHI, tells TT.

How much it rained until the warning was lifted is still unclear, but several media reports that the storm affected traffic, washed away roads and caused flooded basements in parts of Västernorrland and Gävleborg counties.

New rain on the way

In addition, it may continue to rain in the area for the next few hours, according to SMHI:

– There may continue to be some rain there during the evening and night, says Ulrica Sievert.

At present, however, SMHI assesses that the heavy rain has subsided.

– Now we expect the heavy rain to be over for tonight, but if we look further ahead tomorrow, we have a new line of rain that will be brought in over, among other things, Svealand and perhaps southern Norrland, she adds.

Also other areas

However, the prognosis is still difficult to assess:

– Right now it is so uncertain that it will end up, but it would affect parts of southern Norrland where there may have already been a lot of rain, points out Ulrica Sievert.

Other regions could possibly also be affected:

– It could be about eastern Svealand and Dalarna, says Ulrica Sievert.
