Heavy rain is expected in parts of northern Norrland’s interior during Wednesday afternoon and evening, which has caused SMHI to issue a warning.

The warning is yellow, i.e. warning of certain risks to the public. It is about the risk of flooded roads with slower traffic as a result, the risk of flooded basements and the risk of power outages.

The warning concerns Norrbotten’s interior and the northern part of Västerbotten, where rain and thundershowers move eastwards over the area. However, where it will rain the most is difficult to assess – large local variations can occur, according to SMHI.

Late on Wednesday evening, the rain is estimated to have continued.

– An area of showers moves on during the night to Thursday to northern Norway and northernmost Finland. During Thursday we expect calm weather in Norrland, says meteorologist Ulrica Sievert at SMHI.

But new showers – albeit without warning labels – are on the way.

– New showers may form Thursday afternoon and affect parts of Sveland, perhaps western Götaland and southern Norrland. At the moment, however, there is no warning, but it can be good to stay updated, says Ulrica Sievert.

The unsettled weather continues on Friday.

– A new low pressure comes in from the south and gives off many showers, which locally can be strong, says Ulrica Sievert.
