Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines have 2 hearts and 3 lungs

Are you currently playing Space Marine 2 and wondering why you are such a massive super warrior who towers at least 3 heads taller than all “normal” people? The protagonist’s actor, Clive Standen, has the answer for you.

Who is the main character?

  • Clive Standen is a British actor, known, among other things, for his role as Rollo in the TV series Vikings.
  • In Space Marine 2, he gave his voice to Lieutenant Titus and uses his facial features as a CGI template for the feared former Deathwatch soldier.
  • In publisher Focus Entertainment’s “Titus Talks” video series, Standen appears and explains various aspects of the game and Warhammer in general – including what a Space Marine actually is.

This is what Clive Standen explains: In 3 minutes, Clive Standen gives a brief insight into the fairly extensive lore of Warhammer 40,000 and the creation of the Space Marines. He says himself: If he couldn’t answer this question, he wouldn’t have gotten the job at all.

Warhammer 40,000 has an enormously complex lore, but Standen manages to convey the most important information. His summary:

Space Marines are essentially the strongest fighting force ever created. While once human, Space Marines have been genetically modified to be bigger, faster, and stronger.

Standen lists which of these generic changes actually occur in a Space Marine during his creation:

  • Space Marines have 3 lungs to breathe in any environment.
  • They also have two hearts – on the one hand, if one is hit, on the other hand, one alone could not pump the amount of blood. Or, as Standen says, “To love their brothers twice as much.”
  • Improved blood that instantly seals any wound.
  • The list goes on: Not a single organ survives the transformation into a Space Marine unchanged. By the way, the video series currently includes at least two more videos:

A little additional information from us: Space Marines were created by the Emperor, a light figure in Warhammer 40,000. You can find more information about him and his role in the creation of the super soldiers in our special on the Emperor of Mankind.

“The best – and bluest – are the Ultramarines”

Clive Standen further explains that every Space Marine belongs to a Chapter. And his supposed favorite order is – of course – the Ultramarines, because Lieutenant Titus himself is one of them.

The different orders have different tasks, procedures and dogmas by which they live and worship their code. Some of these orders betrayed the Emperor in the “Horus Heresy” and fell into chaos.

Standen says he may be biased, but the Ultramarines represent “everything fantastic about a Space Marine.” He doesn’t go into detail as to why – but luckily we have a detailed description of the order on MeinMMO: In Warhammer 40,000: Space In Marine 2 you play an Ultramarine – we explain what that means
