The Minister of Economy and Finance of France, Bruno Le Maire, has quantified what oil contributes to the Russian coffers. According to his accounts, Vladimir Putin’s government collects 800 million euros a day from the sale of oil. For this reason, he has applauded the partial agreement reached in the EU for the embargo on Russian crude oil. “We cannot continue to finance the war in Ukraine. This decision meets that objective,” Le Maire said, in an interview published in ‘Le Figaro’.
“Our strategic objective is to abandon fossil fuels to strengthen our sovereignty and accelerate the energy transition,” he added. The French minister has pointed out that “The objective of economic sanctions is clear: to weaken Russian power and bring Vladimir Putin to an end to the war in Ukraine”. According to the minister’s calculations, the Russian GDP will fall by 10% by the end of the year due to the sanctions imposed by the West.
