Dnipro: one dead and 22 injured in an air attack

The city of Dnipro, located in central Ukraine, was the target of Russian strikes on Sunday June 4, according to kyiv. The airstrike killed a two-year-old girl and injured 22 others. President Volodymyr Zelensky accused the Russians of “attacking the city” on Saturday evening and pointed out that other victims were trapped in the rubble of two apartment buildings. “During the night, the body of a girl was recovered from the rubble of a house” in the Pidhorodnenska district, “she had just turned two years old”, according to the governor of the Dnipro region, Serhiy Lysak.

On Facebook, the Ukrainian president denounced the attack and posted a video showing rescuers digging through the rubble, to the sound of jackhammers. “Once again, Russia proves that it is a terrorist state. The Russians will bear the responsibility for everything that is committed against our state and our people”, lambasted Volodymyr Zelensky.

Airfield hit by Russian airstrike in central Ukraine

Ukrainian authorities also announced on Sunday that an airfield had been hit by a Russian strike near the town of Kropyvnytskyi, in the center of the country. “Six missiles and five attack drones” were launched by Russian forces, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said on television. “Unfortunately, not all of them were destroyed. Of the six (missiles), four were destroyed by air defense and two hit the airfield near Kropyvnytskyi,” he added.

In kyiv, the head of the local military administration had previously said that the capital’s air defenses had repelled several missiles and drones overnight. “According to preliminary information, no air targets have reached the capital,” Serhiy Popko wrote on the social network Telegram on Sunday.

New bombardments in the Belgorod region

The Ukrainian offensive on the Russian region of Belgorod continues this Sunday. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said the area suffered “a lot” of shelling damage during the night, and two people died. Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov said on Friday that around 5,000 people had fled the shelling.

In recent weeks, attacks on the region have increased. At the end of May, an incursion around Belgorod was claimed by a group calling itself Russian and fighting for kyiv. Ukrainian authorities deny any involvement.
