At the annual Yalta European Strategy conference, Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, expressed confidence about the continuation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. However, he accused North Korea of being a threat to kyiv.
After more than two years of conflict and a breakthrough by Ukraine in Russiathe head of Ukrainian military intelligence is trying to be reassuring. Kyrylo Budanov spoke to European representatives at the annual Yalta European Strategy conference, which is being held in Ukraine, and affirmed that despite “considerable” progress by Russia in armaments, Moscow would end the conflict “before 2026”.
The head of Ukrainian military intelligence accuses North Korea of being a strategic ally of Russia, supplying it with artillery shells used on the front in Ukraine: “Of all these allies of Russia, our biggest problem comes from North Korea, because with the volume of military products it supplies, it really affects the intensity of the fighting.” Although Pyongyang denies these accusations, also made by the United States, the investigative organization Conflict Armament Research assured, after analyzing debris, that “missiles produced this year in North Korea are used in Ukraine,” reports The Figaro.
The end of the conflict “before 2026”
Kyrylo Budanov finally underlines “the considerable progress” of Russia in the production of Iskander ballistic missiles, which are new generation short or medium range missiles. He nevertheless appears confident and predicts an end to the conflict “before 2026”. The head of military intelligence wanted to be reassuring to his European allies, explaining that there will be no escalation and that the West should “not be afraid” to better arm Ukraine. He finally assures that the Ukrainians “will fight for [leur] land” because they have “no other choice”. He also underlines the weight of European sanctions on Moscow in the long term.
