After we recently recommended Rambo and Rambo II, the third part of the series is a must. Today you can see the qualities of this action escalation for yourself on TV. As a special treat, we will also tell you why Sylvester Stallone fired the first Rambo III director.
Today on TV: This is what the action escalation in Rambo III with Sylvester Stallone is about
Vietnam veteran John Rambo is simply not allowed to retire. He now lives a secluded life in a Thai monastery, but is haunted there by Colonel Sam Trautman and recruited again for a special assignmentThis time he has to go to Afghanistan and fight with the Mujahideen against the Soviet army.
Only when Trautman is captured does Rambo agree and plans to free his former mentorWith the help of the arms dealer Mousa, the elite fighter travels via Pakistan to Afghanistan, where he single-handedly takes on Colonel Zaysen’s Soviet troops.
But what really counts in Rambo 3 is the pure actionPart 3 continues the path taken with Rambo 2 and ignores all the nuances that were present in the first film. Here the tank is fired at helicopters at full speed and it is explained what blue light actually does (spoiler: it glows blue!).

In Rambo 3, John Rambo explains in a deadpan manner what the light is all about.
Sylvester Stallone fired the Rambo 3 director because of his enemies being too pretty
Sounds strange, but it’s true: Originally, director Russell Mulcahy was supposed to cast dangerous-looking actors. But what Sylvester Stallone saw displeased him so much that he fired the director, as he explains in Ain’t It Cool.
He went to Israel two weeks before me with the task of casting two dozen brutal-looking Russian troops. The sight of them was supposed to make your blood run cold. But when I arrived on set, he had two dozen blonde, blue-eyed beauties selected who resembled the losers of a surfing competition.
Rambo isn’t afraid of a little competition, of course, but being attacked by third-rate models would be an enemy that might get the better of him. I explained my disappointment to Russell, but he disagreed. So I asked him and his chiffon army to leave the field.
Similarly breathless and brutal actiononly with a sci-fi twist, offers one of the best sci-fi films of the last decade. After thinking for a long time that the planned sequel would never happen, it now looks like it is not dead after years in production hell.
