While the international community remains a spectator to Israel’s massacres in Gaza, conflicts continue at different points in the region. The recent conflicts in Iraq, Syria and Pakistan, of which Iran is the background, also bring to mind the nightmare of the conflicts in the Middle East turning into a regional war.
Conflicts are not limited to the Middle East. The war between Russia and Ukraine in the north has almost entered its second year. While European states were taking precautions with the concern that the conflicts would spread to the continent via Ukraine, a striking statement came from German Defense Minister Pistorius about the Russian threat.
“WE FACE A THREAT THAT HAS NOT BEEN SEEN IN 30 YEARS”
In his statement to the Tagesspiegel newspaper, Minister Pistorius stated that he does not currently think there will be a possible Russian attack and shared the expectations of experts on this issue.
“We are analyzing both possible and maximum risk scenarios. One thing is certain, we are once again facing a military threat situation in Europe that has not been seen in 30 years.” Boris Pistorius said that they saw this in Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
PREPARING FOR THE WORST SCENARIO
Pistorius said, “We hear threats from the Kremlin almost every day, most recently against our friends in the Baltic countries… Therefore, we have to take into account that (Russian President) Vladimir Putin may even attack a NATO country one day. Of course, it is like thinking about the worst-case scenarios.” We have a duty.” made his assessment.
The newspaper asked: “How great is the risk of Russia’s attack? How much time do we have to prepare for it?” Pistorius responded to the question: “I do not think a Russian attack is possible at the moment. Our experts expect this to be possible in a period of 5 to 8 years.” he replied.
