Wanted Wednesday suspect released hours later robbery investigation on Howard

A man Sarnia police asked the public to help track down amid allegations of theft was quickly caught, but only remained in custody a couple of hours.

As part of its new #WantedWednesday social media campaign, Sarnia police asked for information leading to the capture of Kevin Simmons, a 5-foot-6, 140-pound 51-year-old Sarnia man wanted for theft worth less than $5,000 from local retailers and failing to comply with release orders. Police posted two photos of Simmons, one a headshot and the other from a retail store’s video surveillance footage, which appears to be the Real Canadian Superstore in Sarnia.

In a followup post around 3 pm Wednesday, police published the same poster, this time with a “located” banner overtop the photos and thanked the public for their help in finding him.

About two hours later, Simmons appeared in Sarnia bail court, where he was released on $250 bail. He’ll only have to pay the money if he’s caught breaking the rules of his release, which includes a ban on going to the Real Canadian Superstore and Home Depot in Sarnia and the Exmouth Street Shoppers Drug Mart location.

Simmons will be back in court June 25.

ROBBERY INVESTIGATION ON HOWARD WATSON TRAIL

Sarnia police posted on social media late Friday evening they were looking for witnesses of a robbery that took place earlier that day on the Howard Watson Trail system.

Police said they were called around 3 pm to the area of ​​the trail near London Road about a disturbance involving multiple people, which included a potential stabbing and firearms. Officers, including the emergency response team, found an injured man and took him to hospital. He was not stabbed, but did suffer injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

Three unknown suspects fled the area on the trail before police got there, they added. Anyone with information or who may have been driving in the area and captured the incident on their dash cam is asked to call the Sarnia police criminal investigations division at 519-344-8861 extension 5300.
