A 31-year-old Wallaceburg man is accused of trying to rob someone withdrawing money from the TD Bank machine on James Street in Wallaceburg Saturday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police said the alleged robbery attempt resulted in a physical altercation where both individuals suffered minor physical injuries.

The suspect fled the scene while the bank customer reported the incident to police.

Police examined the scene for forensic evidence and received a description of the suspect.

The suspect was seen by police walking west on Main Street early Sunday afternoon. While being arrested, police alleged the man tried to flee from police custody.

The accused was arrested for robbery and resisting arrest. He was released with conditions and a Feb. 6 short date, police said

Wallaceburg man charged after a domestic disturbance

A 59-year-old Wallaceburg man faces several charges after Chatham-Kent police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance on Water Street in Wallaceburg early Sunday morning.

Police said the accused started an argument with a woman that escalated when he allegedly struck her in the jaw, causing it to swell.

Police also learned of historical incidents that allegedly resulted in other injuries.

Police said the accused was arrested and charged with assault, two counts of forcible confinement and two counts of assault causing bodily harm.

He was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Pair charged while traveling in allegedly stolen vehicle

A 31-year-old Wallaceburg woman and 27-year-old Ridgetown man were charged after Chatham-Kent police, conducting a traffic stop just after midnight Sunday, discovered their license plates were registered to another vehicle.

Police alleged the vehicle itself had been reported stolen from a business on Mitton Line last August.

The pair was arrested and officers learned the driver didn’t have a valid driver’s licence, police said.

The Ridgetown man was charged with possession of stolen property with a value more than $5,000, driving while suspended and using an unauthorized license plate.

He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing, police said.

The Wallaceburg woman was charged with possession of stolen property with a value more than $5,000 and released with a court date.
