(Finance) – The New York Stock Exchange remains at parity, with the Dow Jones which stands at 44,506 points; along the same lines, a day without infamy and without praise for theS&P-500which remains at 6,114 points. In fractional decline the Nasdaq 100 (-0.29%); on the levels of the day beforeS&P 100 (-0.11%).
The new occupant of the White House, Donald Trump, has made it known that he will ask for lower interest rates and will invite Saudi Arabia to reduce oil prices. Tycoon’s words spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos also seem to reduce the threat of US tariffs on imports from China.
On the macroeconomic front, activity in service sector US remained expanding in January. The preliminary reading of the PMI services index, compiled by Markit, fell to 52.8, the lowest in the last eight months, from 56.8 in December, when it reached a 33-month high, with estimates at 56.5 . The figure therefore remained at a level associated with expansion, i.e. above 50 points; from July 2022 to January 2023 it had been contracting. As regards the index onmanufacturing activity US grew in January, signaling that the sector is now expanding. The data – drawn up by IHS Markit – which measures the trend rose, in preliminary reading, to 50.2 points, after 47.7 in December. Expectations were for a figure of 49.7 points.
Sectors are distinguished in the S&P 500 basket telecommunications (+1.04%) e utilities (+0.92%). Among the worst on the S&P 500 list, the sectors fell the most energy (-0.75%) e informatics (-0.71%).
At the top of the rankings American giants components of the Dow Jones, Walt Disney (+1.82%), Verizon Communications (+1.17%), Wal-Mart (+0.99%) e Caterpillar (+0.72%).
The steepest declines, however, occur at Intelwhich continues the session with -2.61%.
Negative session for American Expresswhich shows a loss of 2.43%.
Basically weak Boeingwhich recorded a decline of 1.09%.
It moves below parity Merckhighlighting a decrease of 0.89%.
Al top between Wall Street tech giantsthey position themselves PDD Holdings (+5.30%), Broadcom (+2.53%), Meta Platforms (+1.95%) e Zscaler (+1.71%).
The worst performances, however, are recorded on Texas Instrumentswhich gets -6.47%.
Negative session for Microchip Technologywhich falls by 5.01%.
