The creator of How to Train Your Dragon is behind the sci-fi adventure

Chris Sanders is directing the animated adventure and if the name doesn’t ring a bell, you’re excused. Sanders is not yet as famous as Brad Bird (Ratatouille), but with Lilo and Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods he has already delivered a few relevant examples of animated Hollywood cinema as a (co-)director.

The Wild Robot is an adaptation of a 2016 book series by illustrator Peter Brown Robot Roz ends up on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck, where “uninhabited” is relative. There are no humans, but Roz learns how to survive in unprotected nature together with the island’s animals.

The trailer presents some breathtaking landscape images, against the background of which Roz gets to know the fauna. Some animations bring back memories of one or two Hayao Miyazaki films, such as Castle in the Sky.

The voice cast of The Wild Robot includes Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, who voices Roz, as well as The Last of Us father figure Pedro Pascal as the fox and Schitt’s Creek diva Catherine O’Hara as the opossum.

The Wild Robot launches on September 12, 2024 in German cinemas.
