Like the show “Who wants to be my partner?”, in the United States, the ABC program “Shark Tank” highlights the inventions of entrepreneurs. Recently, a young teenager made waves thanks to his concept of an umbrella for two people.
On rainy days, we’re glad to have an umbrella with us so we don’t end up wet from head to toe. And it often happens that two people have to shelter under the same umbrella. But the experience becomes more difficult when you are walking with your child or another person who is not at all the same height. Of course, it’s always up to the older child to hold the umbrella, at the risk of having to lower their head while walking to avoid bumping into the frames… Especially since children often want to hold the handle . To remedy this type of problem and allow two people to shelter together under the same umbrella, a 15-year-old American entrepreneur had an idea that was ingenious to say the least.
Nathaniel Wellen recently appeared on the ABC show “Shark Tank” in the United States, which follows the same principle as the program “Who Wants to Be My Partner?” on M6, highlighting the inventions of entrepreneurs. His time on television was noticed thanks to his innovation. He created the first two-person umbrella. All the originality lies in the handle.
After two years of efforts and tests, Nathaniel Wellen has indeed developed an umbrella with a double extendable handle. It can extend or retract, so that two people of different sizes can hold it at the same time and be protected from raindrops, in complete safety. Because the device can lock easily, once the position of the handle has been selected.
The idea came to him very young, when he was 8 years old. At the time, he therefore joined forces with his father to design a first prototype and patent it. One thing led to another, he made his invention known, obtained his first partnership with a brand, which allowed him to participate in the show “Shark Tank”. Faced with the six investors present, the teenager asked them to invest $100,000, in exchange for 10% of his company. The objective being to further develop its brand and its umbrella models. Unanimously, the jury congratulated the young entrepreneur for his idea and his ambition. After several discussions, he managed to obtain the desired sum by finally selling 18% of his company. Wellen’s advice to young people is simple: “Just keep moving. Keep going”which means “Keep moving forward” whatever happens.
