“In order to reach the $30,000 goal this year, we need to recruit 25 teams and 10 walkers of all ages who will fundraise on our behalf,” said Luco Marco, president of the organization, which has a mission to “promote the voice of lived experience.”

Now in its fourth year, the Grand Parade has raised almost $90,000 in support of the Grand River Council on Aging’s work. The organization provides programs and resources for seniors, including bi-weekly virtual Community at Home Workshops; an Info Hub with more than 350 links to community events, activities and resources; and a Seniors Discount Directory.

The Grand Parade will be hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Brantford at the Kiwanis Field behind Pauline Johnson Collegiate. Participants of all ages and mobility will be encouraged to walk or roll on the track.

Local retirement homes have been invited to participate in a Parade at Home Challenge complete with banners, buttons and balloons in celebration of seniors.

For the fourth year, Erma’s Army Tean is early out of the gate for registrations with 10 walkers signed up and plans for more.

“The walk is a family affair in honor of my mom,” said team captain Linda Moyer. “Last year, Erma’s Army grew to 19 walkers, representing three generations of family, walking and celebrating the unconditional love of a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.”

Walkers who raise $150 or more in pledges will get a special edition 2024 Grand Parade T-shirt and all team members will get a swag bag on the day of the event.
