There are no current figures for the entire industry. But it is clear that the prices for used cars have risen considerably in recent years.
For example, sales platform Autoscout24 calculated that a used car on their platform cost an average of 17,714 euros in 2020. That has now risen to 22,723 euros, which suggests a price increase of more than 28 percent in two years.
In addition to the worldwide chip shortage and the scarcity of wiring harnesses, the trade association Bovag in Bunnik gives more reasons why the prices for cars are rising. For example, fewer new cars than average have been sold for years, which means that few used cars come onto the market. People have also been able to save a lot because of the corona period.
