The US Treasury Department will recognize the Russian military company Wagner group as an “international criminal organization”.
White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said at a daily press conference that the Russian mercenary group led by Yevgeny Prigozhin would be recognized by the US Treasury Department as a “serious international criminal organization”.
Kirby said that the Wagner group has become a central force on the field, citing disagreements between the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Wagner group.
Expressing that they will impose additional sanctions on the Wagner group and its supporters on different continents, Kirby also shared satellite photos showing that North Korea delivered weapons to the Wagner group for use in Ukraine last year. According to the photos he shared, Kirby claimed that arms shipments from North Korea were loaded into containers by train and delivered to Russia.
Kirby condemned these actions of North Korea and noted that arms transfers from this country were a direct violation of the relevant UNSC resolutions.
John Kirby stated that they informed the UN about this issue. (AA)
