UTRECHT – The volleyball players of VV Utrecht have reached the semi-finals in the cup tournament. After a real battle of wear and tear, the Utrecht formation settled with fellow premier divisionist Eurosped. In Vroomshoop it became 2-3.
It was a constant change of pace. Eurosped narrowly won the first set 27-25. A set later, Utrecht convincingly tied the score (17-25), after which the home team took the lead again by winning the third set (25-17).
Knowing that Eurosped could decide the match in the fourth set, Utrecht threw everything into it. It resulted in a 19-25 win, after which the fifth set would decide. In the last set it was a tie until 9-9. Then the gas went up at Utrecht after which the set was won 12-15.
In the semifinals, VV Utrecht will compete against reigning cup winner Apollo 8.
Taurus dies in men’s tournament
Taurus was unable to withstand Orion in the quarterfinals of the men’s tournament. In Doetinchem, the game was decided in three sets. The Houten team lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-14) against the leader of the Eredivisie.
