Flagship model in the range of electric mountain bike at Canyon, the Spectral:On is entitled to a substantial update. The manufacturer explains that it has revised its geometry to make it even more efficient uphill and safer downhill. The head tube angle is down one degree, the seat tube angle is reduced from 74.5 to 76.5 degrees to improve uphill pedaling while the chainstays are up 5mm from the previous model. As a result, Canyon claims that its all-mountain has gained traction and stability for the ascent while retaining its maneuverability in the winding portions. In short, this all-mountain electric mountain bike is more versatile and playful than ever.

But the main innovation is in the battery that powers the motor. Shimano EP8 Spectral:On. It was designed by Canyon who developed his own power system. The manufacturer explains that by arranging the cells horizontally, he was able to increase the number without significantly increasing the size and weight. A lot of work has also been done on the integration of this battery, which is located lower in the frame, in front of the engine. This results in a center of gravity lowered and better weight distribution which should aid handling and handling.

The Spectral:On is available in five versions

The Spectral:On is available with a 720 Wh battery for size S frames and 900 Wh for M, L and XL frames. In the first case, Canyon announces that it has reached a range of 77 km with an altitude difference of 1,680 m. With the 900 Wh battery, the brand claims 97 km for 2,132 m of elevation gain. It remains to be seen with which mode of assistance these performances were obtained. But the fact remains that this configuration makes it possible to envisage long outings with substantial elevation changes.

All Spectral:On models adopt a so-called “mule” configuration, with 29-inch wheels in the front and 27.5-inch wheels in the rear. This choice hybrid is supposed to provide the best compromise between stability and maneuverability to keep the bike more playful than a full 29er. For travel, we are on 150 mm at the front and 155 mm at the rear. Canyon has chosen to equip all models with RockShox or Fox forks and shocks depending on the mounting.

The Spectral:On is available in five versions with frames in carbon, rear triangle included, which is a first on this model. Prices range between 1,999 and 11,299 euros for the highest-end model. In addition to a well-stocked wallet, you will also need to be patient before you can get on this electric mountain bike. The Spectral:On CFR, the most opulent version, is available for order with delivery announced between June and November in the best case. As for the more affordable Spectral:On CF, it will be marketed from next month without specifying the delivery date.
