The accident happened on November 21, 2020. Due to flooding, firefighters from the Den Dolder fire station went to the complex. In one of the apartments, a water pipe appeared to have burst, from which water had been flowing for some time. On site, the order was given to drain the water via the lift shaft. Because the open elevator shaft was not cordoned off, an unsafe situation arose, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). It is not known how the victim subsequently fell into the elevator shaft.
