Member of Parliament Timo Vornanen, 54, is being investigated for a firearms incident.
Now the True Finn opens up about why he fired the warning shot outside the nightclub.
– I was exposed to threats to life and health, says Vornanen at a press conference according to Swedish EPN.
It was at the end of April that the firearms incident took place outside a nightclub in Kampen in Helsinki.
Timo Vornanen fired what he claims was a warning shot around 4am.
The reason was to avoid a punch or stab, he tells a press conference.
– I didn’t intend to hurt anyone, that’s why I aimed down at the ground, he says at the press conference according to Swedish EPN.
“Hope it becomes public”
Vornanen believes that the six people involved were never in danger and that the warning shot was harmless. He had a permit for the weapon he was wearing, it was granted in 1998 when he was working as a police officer. However, he does not want to tell why he wore it.
Timo Vornanen also admits that he drank alcohol during the evening, but does not want to say how much alcohol he had in his blood.
– I hope that one day the investigation material will be made public so that everyone will know what happened.
The true Finns have chosen to exclude him from the parliamentary group and the party while the police investigation is ongoing.
