Officials from VON are celebrating 125 years of the organization’s homecare services in Canada, with 84 of them in Chatham-Kent.
The organization marked the occasion with a flag-raising May 24 at the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre. VON Chatham-Kent board chair JoAnne Dawson said health care is changing, but the organization’s homecare and community programs remain relevant.
She said the non-profit charitable organization receives limited government funding, but Chatham-Kent residents have always supported VON to allow it to continue its work.
Mayor Darrin Canniff said VON “makes a huge difference in Chatham-Kent.” He noted the organization has over a dozen programs for residents of all ages.
