European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has arrived in Kyiv.
“So much has changed. Ukraine is now an EU candidate,” she writes on Twitter.
Ursula von der Leyen promised more support to Ukraine when she gave her big speech on the state of the Union on Wednesday. Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska was also present in the EU Parliament in Strasbourg.
The trip to Kyiv is von der Leyen’s third since Russia’s attack on February 24 this year. On the agenda are meetings with both President Zelenskyj and Prime Minister Sjmyhal.
According to von der Leyen, they should talk about how the EU and Ukraine should “continue to unite our economies and populations, while Ukraine approaches accession” to the Union. However, even in the best of cases, it is expected to take several years, AP writes.
