Volvo EM90 all electric MPV leaked ahead of launch

Volvo recently introduced its first all-electric MPV, the EM90, which is expected to be launched in 2024. Although the official announcement has not been made yet, China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) has revealed some of the key features and design of the vehicle ahead of the official launch.

The EM90 marks Volvo’s entry into the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) segment and marks a departure from its traditional vehicle offerings. This electric MPV is built on Geely’s SEA platform, which is used for various Zeekr models including the Zeekr 009 and also underpins the Polestar 4, Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X.

The EM90 has the same powertrain configuration as one of the Zeekr 009 models, with a rear-mounted 272 hp electric motor manufactured by VREMT, a subsidiary of Geely. Although the battery capacity is not fully disclosed, NMC cells supplied by CATL are used.

The EM90’s design differs from its Zeekr 009 sibling by being more in line with Volvo’s design language, but the overall chassis profile remains quite similar to the Zeekr’s design. The van is quite large, with dimensions of 5,206 mm x 2,024 mm x 1,859 mm and a wheelbase of 3,205 mm. Its weight is 2,763 kg.
