Volunteers celebrated at West Elgin Community Health Center

Special to The Chronicle

The West Elgin Community Health Center recently hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation event at the Backus Page House Museum.

It was a sunny, fun afternoon of celebration to thank the volunteers for their many hours of service over the past year. During the June 22 celebration, they enjoyed a local guest speaker from Upside Downie Homestead, who also led a small art workshop with the group.

Each volunteer was given a square white tile and some paint. They were asked to create an image that shows what volunteering at the health center means to them, or what it looks like from their perspective. The results of the art work will be put on display at the health center for everyone to enjoy, as an assembled mosaic.

The West Elgin Community Health Center volunteers help provide vital services, such as Meals on Wheels delivery, transportation services and friendly visiting, to our local communities. You might also see them assisting with any number of programs at the center or the Hub, at special events, working in the community garden, preparing food, helping with children’s programs, and much, much more.

The center is so fortunate to have such an amazing group of local people wanting to help our community. The centre’s volunteers range from 15 to 88 years old, and might have just recently started volunteering with the center or they may have been helping out for more than two decades.

The West Elgin Community Health Center is always looking to add to its wonderful volunteer team. More information about volunteer opportunities, including an online application, can be found at wechc.on.ca or by email at [email protected]
