Volunteer 75 injured attempting to stop Sarnia liquor store theft

A 75-year-old volunteer collecting donations for the Red Cross was injured while trying to stop a liquor store theft Saturday, say Sarnia police.

It’s alleged a suspect took two bottles of alcohol at about 2:25 pm at the LCBO on Quinn Drive in Sarnia and the volunteer who attempted to prevent the man from leaving the store was pushed and then tripped, causing him to fall and strike his head , police said in a news release.

The volunteer was taken to hospital where he received several staples.

Police released surveillance photos and asked for the public’s help identifying a suspect described as a white male with a slim build who was wearing red and black pants, a black coat with a red hood, a black face covering and a New York Yankees baseball hat, police said.
