Volodymyr Zelensky’s appeal after Iran’s attack on Israel

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is appealing to Western allies to show the same unity towards Ukraine that was shown during Iran’s attack on Israel.

– The intensity of Russian attacks requires greater unity, he says.

The US, UK and France assisted and shot down robots and attack drones fired at Israel during Iran’s attack overnight on Sunday.

99 percent of the approximately 300 robots and drones fired were neutralized, according to the Israeli military.

– The whole world witnessed an allied operation in the sky over Israel and the neighboring countries. It showed how truly effective unity in defense against terror can be when it is based on sufficient political will, says President Zelensky in his evening speech.

Drones shot down

The same type of Iranian-made weapons, so-called Shahed drones, are also used by Russia in its daily attacks on Ukrainian cities. On the night of Tuesday, nine such were shot down, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

– Shaheds in the sky above Ukraine sound identical to those over the Middle East. The impact of ballistic missiles, if not stopped, is the same everywhere, says Zelensky.

Zelensky wants the same help

European airspace could have been protected from Russian attacks a long time ago if Ukraine had been offered the same help, notes Zelensky.

– Israel is not a NATO member, so no action such as triggering Article 5 was required. And no one was drawn into the war. They simply contributed to protecting human life, he says.

Ukraine has warned in recent months that the lack of military support, including anti-aircraft missiles, has allowed Russia to step up its deadly attacks.
