Volodymyr has the most dangerous job in Ukraine: “The deminers always go first”

Volodymyr is a 47-year-old engineer with perhaps the most dangerous job in Ukraine: He is a so-called sapper who clears landmines at the front.

For Volodymyr, his job involves deadly risks every day. His job is to make the ground safe for his fellow soldiers to advance on.

– It is always the minesweepers who go first when we advance. It’s a dangerous job, says Volodymyr.

In the field hospitals on the front line, the beds are filled with troops with blast injuries from the Russian land mines.
