Volkswagen Herbert Diess leaves Oliver Blume is the new Chairman

(Finance) – The Supervisory Board of Volkswagen he nominated Oliver Blume is the new Chairman of the group. He will take up the position with effect from 1 September 2022, alongside this with the role of Chairman of Porsche and continuing in the latter capacity even after a possible IPO. Herbert Diess will resign at the same time as Chairman, “by mutual agreement”.

His departure, three years before his contract expired in 2025, comes after a four-year term in which he pushed the German automaker’s electrification strategy and has clashed repeatedly with trade unions and the board of directors.

Oliver Blume is joined the Volkswagen group in 1994 and, since then, he has held executive positions for the Audi, Seat, Volkswagen and Porsche brands. He has been chairman of Porsche’s board of directors since 2015 and a member of the group’s board of directors since 2018.

The Supervisory Board also resolved that the Group CFO Arno Antlitz he will also assume the position of COO and thus assist Blume in day-to-day operations.
