Volkswagen enters price war with Tesla dumps prices

It was in January 2023 that Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume announced that Volkswagen would not start a price war with Tesla.

– We have a clear pricing strategy and focus on reliability. We trust the strength of our products and brands, Oliver Blume added Frankfurt Allgemeine Sonnetagszeitung.

Tesla had then just rolled out major price reductions on its cars – some models became over 200,000 kroner cheaper.

More affordable model versions

A year later, they seem to have changed their mind, and are now significantly lowering the prices of several models in several European markets.

In Sweden, among other things, more affordable versions of the bestseller ID.4 have been introduced. The old base price is SEK 586,900, and that version is still available.

However, they have also introduced a version called Edition for the price of SEK 558,500, with extra equipment for SEK 58,000. This therefore corresponds to a price reduction of SEK 86,400.

They have also introduced a cheaper version of the car with sheet metal rims that costs SEK 512,900.

Even cheaper in Germany

Down in Europe, they have gone lower with the price reductions, and in Germany it is possible to get your hands on a brand new ID.4 for just 39,649 euros, corresponding to just under SEK 450,000.

The little sibling ID.3 is now also cheaper, with a base price of 39,990 euros.

Both cars are also entitled to the German electric car bonus of 5,000 euros.
