Several civil society organizations (CSOs) are calling on the transitional power in Burkina Faso. In a statement dated March 27, 2024, they called on President Traoré’s regime to respect all the provisions of the Constitution and to release people illegally arrested or arbitrarily requisitioned.

Le Balai Citoyen, the Norbert-Zongo National Press Center, the National Coalition to Fight the High Cost of Living and the Kebayina Association of Women of Burkina Faso… in total, there are eleven structures, which one can hardly suspect of being bad patriots or seditious elements in the land of “men of integrity”, represented in the declaration of March 27. These representatives of civil society all co-signed this text for the attention of the transitional power.
Four-page statement
In this four-page declaration on the “national situation in Faso” the authors – while emphasizing their solidarity with the defenders of the country who are fighting against the terrorists – are concerned, at the same time, about the threats weighing on national cohesion. Cohesion undermined by small groups exploited, arbitrary arrests or forced recruitment which contravene the decisions taken by the Burkinabe courts.

This is why these organizations “ denounce and condemn » the kidnappings of citizens which open the voice to all “ possible deviations “. Abuses which also concern the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, who opened up about them during an official meeting with the transitional president, Ibrahim Traoré, on March 21, 2024.
