It is burning at a waste facility in Gävle harbor, reports SVT Gävleborg.
A black smoke pillar is visible all over central Gävle and now a VMA has been issued.
“The rescue leader urges everyone in the area to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation,” is in the message.
The rescue service, which is in place with several units, states that it burns in a 15 meter high rubbish pile at the waste facility on Bönavägen in Gävle.
– We are in the process of pulling the pile apart with a loading machine and will extinguish as soon as you enter the pile, says Jonas Eriksson, alarm and commanding officer at the rescue service, to SVT.
VMA issued
At present, there is no risk of spread, but the rescue service expects it to take a long time to extinguish the fire.
At 12.30 a VMA was issued, important message to the public.
“It burns in a recycling plant with strong smoke development as a result. The rescue leader urges everyone in the area to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation,” is in the message.
