Russia has long been the largest supplier of arms to the African continent, by far. Over the period 2017-2021, 44% of imports came from Russia, compared to 17% from the United States, 10% from China and 6% from France. In a study, the Belgian Center Group for Research and Information on Peace and Security (Grip) looked at the evolution of these commercial links. And notes that despite the invasion of Ukraine and Western sanctions, Russian suppliers remain very well established.
