Vive la France New Renault 5 gets baguette holder

Perhaps the most stereotypical detail is that the car will be offered with a baguette holder, in the form of a rattan basket mounted on the side of the center console.

“The Renault 5 E-Tech will also be the first car specifically equipped to transport baguettes from the bakery. No more flour and crumbs on your fine clothing!”, says the press release.

Designed by classic basket makers

The oblong basket is designed by the French basket maker Marguerite Herlant.

The accessory brings to mind the small flower vase that was mounted on the dashboard of Volkswagen’s New Beetle, which was launched in the late 90s.

Several fun details

The baguette holder is not the only fun detail on the new Renault 5.

The gear selector, called “e-pop shifter”, is designed to look like a lipstick case, for example, and can be adapted to taste by replacing the end cap.

In total, there will be no less than 104 different accessories to order for your Renault 5.

New Renault 5 is one of several electric cars from the brand that will follow a design language called “Retrofuturistic”, which is reflected in its modern with retro-inspired design language.

Funny details such as small French flags embedded in the headlights and a battery indicator on the bonnet add to the impression.

An exact date for when the Renault 5 E-Tech will be launched in Sweden has not yet been communicated.

Going forward, the car will come in a performance-focused Alpine version called the A290.

Other upcoming “Retrofuturistic” cars that are on the way are the new generations of Twingo and 4, which on the outside should resemble the original versions of the models from the 90s and 60s respectively.
