Virginia McCullough, 36, is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her parents in the county of Essex in Great Britain, reports Sky News.

While neighbors heard stories of parents being away or sick, McCullough built a makeshift grave for his father, who lay dead in the home.

The murders took place sometime in June 2019. McCullough poisoned his father and then stabbed his mother to death. Then she hid the bodies and continued to live in the family’s house with the bodies – for over four years.

According to a prosecutor, McCullough then lived off her parents’ savings and took out large loans in their names, while she continued to lie to accountants, relatives and doctors about her parents’ whereaboutswrites the BBC.

The police camera captures the eerie confession

McCullough had four sisters. During the day, the family gave a statement about the death of their parents, writes the BBC.

“Our family is devastated and heartbroken over our parents, who were taken from us in such a callous manner.”

The bodies were not discovered until the fall of 2023, when police searched the house and then arrested McCullough.

Police body cameras capture the eerie moment McCullough realizes she’s caught. McCullough says calmly and collectedly that she intends to cooperate, then shows the officers where to find the bodies and a bloody weapon.

– My father’s body is in there, she says.

The police then ask about the mother.

– It’s a little more complicated, McCullough answers, and then explains that the body is in a closet upstairs.

“Smile a little, you caught the bad guy”

McCullough also says that she knew she would be caught at some point and that it is right that she serve the sentence.

Then she says to the police:

– Smile a little, at least you caught the villain.
