Andrew Fahie, Prime Minister of the British Virgin Islands, was detained in the USA on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.

It was announced that Fahie was caught in Miami by American agents who presented themselves as Mexican cocaine smugglers.

Andrew Fahie allegedly agreed with agents for $700,000 to allow Virgin Islands ports to be used by drug traffickers.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said she was “appalled” by these allegations.

‘Agreement for 700 thousand dollars’

It is stated that Fahie was detained by US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officials in Florida along with Virgin Islands Port Authority director Oleanvine Maynard and Maynard’s son, Kadeem Maynard.

DEA agents are said to have introduced themselves as members of the Sinaola Cartel, the largest US drug smuggler.

The Sinaola Cartel was under the control of now jailed drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman.

According to US officials, Fahie and two others were charged with conspiracy to smuggle more than five kilograms of cocaine into the US and money laundering.

The DEA announced that the investigation was launched in October, following the tip of an informant. According to DEA officials, the whistleblower told Fahie that he planned to smuggle tons of Colombian cocaine worth tens of millions of dollars to the United States over the Virgin Islands; He said the drugs would first be brought to Puerto Rico and from there via Miami to New York.

It is claimed that Fahie and the DEA agent also discussed the Virgin Islands Prime Minister’s raids on fake dollars and low-quality drugs to give the impression that he is fighting against drug trafficking.

According to the records of the case, Fahie said that the UK Government has been trying to remove her from her job for years.

The British overseas territory of the British Virgin Islands consists of more than 40 islands in the Caribbean.

In islands where parliamentary democracy is practiced, the prime minister is the head of government with the governor appointed by the British Government.

In the Panama Papers, the Virgin Islands are described as one of the most popular tax havens.
