The Japanese Spider-Man series was produced by the Toei Company based on the American Marvel Comics and from 1978 to 1979 with 41 episodes aired. In the storyline for the Japanese version of the Marvel character, young motorcycle racer Takuya Yamashiro is transformed into the titular superhero with alien blood from the planet Spider.
Since Toei did not have sufficient rights to the character vis-à-vis Marvel, the Spider-Man series appeared only in Japan on VHS. As a result, this version is hardly known in Germany.
