Terrified passengers crouched inside the cabin of the plane as it prepared for takeoff.
The fighting at the airport broke out when Guzman, the son of imprisoned “El Chapo”, was to be taken to the prison in the capital Mexico City in the Mexican Air Force. Earlier in the day, the police had intercepted a column of SUVs belonging to Ovidio Guzman’s drug cartel.
Guzman was arrested in the operation. But violent protests then erupted in Culiacan where vehicles were set on fire and police and military were also fired upon.
